Detoxification is a continuous process that would gradually rid your body of these unwanted toxins. The human body is able to naturally detoxify itself. But for it to be effective, we need to support it by limiting the harmful substances we absorb from our diet. Among the products we need to regulate are cigarettes, alcohol, sugar and caffeine. Avoiding petroleum based products and other synthetic substances used in our personal care would also help lessen our toxin intake.

Another process that would help limit the toxins in our body is the use of herbs. By using some herbs which are known to have toxin limiting capabilities, you can help your body detoxify itself.

Among these herbs are Pysillium seeds and husks.  Pysillium has high fiber content and as such, makes for a good natural laxative.  It is useful for people who have problems with their bowel movements. Furthermore, Pysillium has toxin absorbing properties that make it ideal for detoxification. Cascara Sagrada is another natural laxative that could be safely used even for long durations.

Hydrangea root and gravel root, also known as the John Pye weed,  are herbs that aid the detoxification. It helps maintain the health of the bladder and kidneys and keep it free from stones.

Juniper berries, nettles and burdock seeds and roots aid the detoxification through the urinary system. These herbs also promotes healthy bladder and kidneys but are not to be over used since it could be quite a stress for the kidneys.

For the care of the lymph system, there are a number of herbs that can be used. This includes thyme, fennel, rosemary, basil, lemon, and grapefruit to name a few. These have oils that are needed to stimulate the lymph to cleanse itself of toxins.

Dandelion root and milk thistle are also good for detoxification. These herbs help promote a healthy liver. It helps the organs to flush out unwanted toxins. Furthermore, milk thistle contains silymarin which helps the liver to regenerate and protects it from damage.

Alder buckthorn’s barks are also useful for detoxification. But care should be given when using these because the bark itself is toxic when it is still fresh. Because of this, it is advised to allow a year for the bark to dry out.
